Summer Term Curriculum

English

We will be starting by using video and images to inspire our narrative writing this term linked to our 'Is Sea-ing Believing?' project.  We will also be learning a story off by heart (this will help us to internalise sentence patterns and vocabulary) called The King of the Fishes.  However, probably the most important part of our English and 'Pronglish' lessons will be learning about and then producing our own information texts based on sea creatures (real or imaginary) which will then be professionally published!!!!

Maths

We will start the final term looking at 2d and 3d shape and also classifying angles.  We will then be moving into 3 maths groups.  In these new maths groups we will be working on division and fractions.  The push on times tables (AND LINKED DIVISION FACTS) will continue.  Please encourage your child to complete the maths challenges which are set each week to see if we can keep the weekly winners in lower school!

'Is 'sea'ing believing?)

We are very excited about our third REAL project.  The children took great delight in designing their project and after some fine tuning we are ready to launch this on Monday 18th April which is swiftly followed by our visit to The Deep at Hull.

The final outcome of our project is to have a family fun day on Thursday 14th July which will be based at Cleethorpes Discovery Centre.  During the day, we will (weather permitting) have sandcastle building sessions, bird watching and feeding, a treasure trail.  But the most amazing part of the day will be the children signing and selling their professionally produced books!

Creative Homework

We were again amazed by the quality of the creative homework produced by Year 3 children and their families.  Thank you!

This term you can get creative with the theme 'Under the Sea' which is our theme for our 'Is 'sea'ing believing?' project.  All creative homework should be returned to school by Thursday 24th June.

Possible ideas

an underwater shoebox theatre

a 'water' colour painting!

poetry

a presentation about ocean conservation

a mermaid / merman animation / green screen

PE and Games

Games with Miss Green will continue to be on a Wednesday afternoon.  This term the children will be learning more about striking and fielding skills (tennis / cricket / a simple version of rounders).  Please can you make sure that correct PE kits are in school and that there are no earrings?  The children will also need their kits on a Thursday morning when we will be (hopefully) outside working on our athletics skills.  We will be working alongside 3W so that we can get more time to practise our skills ready for the pentathlon and for House sports afternoon!
