Immersive Learning Environments
This is a key teaching approach that promotes engagement for all learners. At Scartho Junior Academy we use environmental stimuli to enrich a child’s experience. All our classrooms have a variety of flexible learning spaces, which allow children to feel empowered to make daily decisions about how they would like to learn, therefore engaging them further. As well as this, the learning environment of each class changes with each project that we do so that it reflects a place, event or time.
Learning through REAL Projects is a design for learning that connects deep subject content with real world problem solving. REAL Projects enable all students to create extraordinary work that matters. All the children gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to a complex question, problem, or challenge. This involves several skills and stages ; an essential question, 21st century skills, in depth inquiry, student voice and choice, learning for purpose and authentic audiences. The projects must be ‘Rigorous’, be 'Engaging', be shared with ‘Authentic’ audiences, and the children must ‘Learn’ throughout. All of these skills and aspects ensure children are engaged in learning to the highest level possible.
